THE NEW CONNOISSEUR

Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2026

David Hicks believed great interiors should be fearless, disciplined, and unmistakably personal. The New Connoisseur reimagines that philosophy for today, preserving the confidence of his compositions while replacing formality with warmth, texture, and quiet sophistication.

Strong geometry provides the framework, while draped textiles, cerused oak, subtly tinted stainless steel, and richly layered materials soften the architecture, creating spaces that feel collected rather than decorated. A bespoke silk and wool carpet flows seamlessly from the entrance hall into the primary bedroom, establishing a continuous visual thread and reinforcing the room's underlying sense of order. Subtle geometric ceiling treatments introduce another layer of pattern, adding architectural depth while allowing the furnishings below to remain the focus.

The primary bedroom is enveloped in softly draped fabric, creating an intimate, cocoon-like retreat where texture, craftsmanship, and carefully considered detail define the experience. The adjoining balcony extends the design outdoors, offering a natural continuation of the interior and a quiet moment of respite.

Neither a period room nor a nostalgic homage, The New Connoisseur is an exploration of how timeless ideas can evolve—honoring one of design's great visionaries while looking confidently toward the future. Together, these spaces celebrate enduring design, exceptional craftsmanship, and the lasting value of thoughtfully made interiors.
